BikeAll year roundEverywhere!Free! The bike trails in and around Madison are fantastic. The Capitol City loop is a fast and flat 18 miles. For more of a challenge, go west of town and hit the rolling hills around Paoli, Black Earth, or Cross Plains (ride up Barlow Rd. and try not to cry). If you want friends to bike with, check out the Bombay Bicycle Club. And yes, you can ride in the winter. Invest in studded bike tires, ski goggles and helmet, some good mittens and be a badass winter warrior. You'll have to come to terms with the salt wrecking your components so finding a cheapo bike on Craigslist isn't a bad idea.

Rock climbingIndoors anytime, late spring-fall outdoorsThe Sett @ Union South, Boulders Climbing Gym on the east-side, and Devil's Lake State Park$-$$$The Sett has a small wall that is cheap to use and not bad for a quick lunchtime workout. For better and longer routes, go to Boulders. For outdoor climbing, Devil's Lake is the place to go if you have a trad rack and know how to set top-rop anchors safely (no bolts allowed). Very high quality purple quartzite, moderate approaches, and good community. Governor Dodge has sandstone bouldering.
