Description:
HeartCode® BLS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Basic Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance. The program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, Cognitive Assessment Activities, illustrations, knowledge checks and interactive activities, this program teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency and adaptability to different learning styles. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each knowledge check and each Cognitive Assessment Activity. Students who successfully complete the cognitive portion and the hands-on session (skills) will receive an AHA BLS Provider course completion card (eCard), valid for two years.

Who Should Take this Course?

Healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in hospital and pre-hospital settings.

- The steps of the Chains of Survival
- How to perform high-quality CPR for an adult, a child, and an infant
- How to use an AED
- Effective team dynamics in a multi rescuer resuscitation
- How to treat special considerations in basic life support
- How to relieve foreign-body airway obstruction for an adult, a child, and an infant,

Costs
HeartCode BLS® Hands-on Skills Testing $40 (2 Hours)

Course delivery
Blended Learning – HeartCode BLS®

Includes a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, and a hands-on session.

Important: You must print the certificate of completion at the end of the online portion. You will need to give this to your instructor when you attend the classroom portion. It is necessary to show that you completed the online portion and passed the exam. If you do not have your certificate of completion, you will not be able to complete the skills practice and testing of the course.

i. The HeartCode BLS online program can be purchased at AHA directly (https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls) or can purchase a key through another vendor.

II. Once a student is either issued or purchases a key for the online portion of a HeartCode BLS Course, the student will go to onlineaha.org to activate the key and complete the online portion of the course.

What else should I know?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting. If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please email emergencymgt@mhub.uwpd.wisc.edu prior to the course. The instructors will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements. In the event that you are ill, please contact Learning and Talent Development to reschedule.
