University Roundtable - The Arboretum: A Living Exhibit of What Wisconsin Was, What It Is, and What It Expects to Become  (back)

Description:
The Arboretum: A Living Exhibit of What Wisconsin Was, What It Is, and What It Expects to Become
Karen Oberhauser
The UW-Madison Arboretum, a Center in the OVCRGE, is an important resource for both the City of Madison and the University. Comprising 1,200 acres in Madison, and explored by tens of thousands of visitors every year, the Arboretum manages the oldest restored prairie in the world, traditional horticultural collections, and both remnant and restored ecosystems that provide a glimpse into what Aldo Leopold called “original Wisconsin.” Arboretum Director Karen Oberhauser will talk about how 26 regular employees, hundreds of volunteers, and dozens of seasonal employees work to support the mission of conserving and restoring Arboretum lands, advancing restoration ecology, and fostering the land ethic.
