Project Management Symposium 2016  (back)
 
Description:
The 2016 Project Management Symposium will bring together campus project managers and those aspiring to be project managers responsible for small to medium-sized projects who are looking for practical tools/techniques and networking opportunities with other project managers.

Day One-
A) Build understanding of the project management framework, the project pipeline, and key terms and concepts.
B) Practice interviewing and other techniques to gather project information.
C) Learn how to prepare for project kickoff meetings and how to create project charters and communication plans.
D) Practice identifying/assigning work tasks and estimating work.
E) Practice developing a project schedule with milestones.

Day Two-
A) Learn how to create and maintain a risk mitigation plan.
B) Explore techniques for monitoring project progress, milestones, and costs.
C) Learn techniques for change management and controlling scope, cost, and schedule.
D) Explore personal triggers and techniques for managing yourself.
E) Learn the value of closeout reports and documenting lessons learned/ best practices.
F) Learn about portfolio management.
G) Develop a personal action plan and explore other project management resources.

There is no cost to attend the symposium and a box lunch is included. Attendees should plan to attend both sessions because they are cumulative and follow the project management framework from initiation to closure.
