There’s no way to sugarcoat it. Hurricane Irma is a catastrophic storm, and it’s heading toward Florida and potentially the Southeast Coast. If it makes landfall in Florida, it will be the first hurricane to do so since Wilma in 2005. The effects could be devastating for a population that has ballooned in recent decades.
