In this webinar William Thompson, PhD, will discuss his background, research experience and current position in the Center for Disease Control He will also give an overview of the CDC, topics associated with psychology, and job positions that may be of interested to students following graduation.

Please see below for a bio of Dr. William Thompson
Dr. William Thompson has worked at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for the last 17 years and is currently a senior scientist with the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a PhD in psychology from the University of Virginia. Dr. Thompson’s primary research interests are focused on understanding longitudinal effects of stressful life events and behavioral risk factors on current physical and mental health.
Over the last 8 years, Dr. Thompson has coauthored a wide range of scientific publications assessing the impact of health behaviors, such as physical activity and smoking, on health-related quality of Life (HRQOL) and Well-Being. This work has also included assessing the long term impact of childhood physical and sexual abuse on HRQOL among adults.
Dr. Thompson has also served on a number of different federal interagency workgroups and was the co-led of the HHS Healthy People 2020 Health-Related Quality of Life and Well-Being Workgroup for 7 years.
