Badgers finished sixth at NCAAs and captured 53rd conference title in 2022

MADISON, Wis. – For the ninth time in his career in Madison, Wisconsin Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mick Byrne has been named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Region Men's Coach of the Year, the group announced on Monday.

Byrne led the Badgers to a sixth-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Championships, their highest finish in 10 years, last Saturday. It also marked the 10th time under Byrne the Badgers have collected a top-10 finish at the national meet.

UW also captured its 53rd Big Ten Conference title and its 32nd regional team crown.

A pair of Badgers, Jackson Sharp and Bob Liking, earned their first All-America honors last Saturday thanks to their top-40 finishes. The duo also played big roles in the Badgers' Big Ten title as Liking won his second-straight Big Ten title while Sharp was runner-up. In addition, Adam Spencer was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

The 2022 Big Ten Coach of the Year, Bryne now owns 15 career regional men's cross country coach of the year honors after earning six accolades while at Iona.
